My name is Chotu and I am 11 . When I first came to Buddha Smile school I was carrying mud from one place to another for construction and building , I was seven years old and I was working whole day for fifty rupees ( $1.50) , still now I help after school , I help my father so that we can get extra money and in holidays also I work . We got half an hour break in the middle of the day and really I got tired and then again we have to work until six oclock I did not enjoy but my family needed it. I am happy now I am coming to school, my mind has changed, before I was working all the time, now I pay more attention to my studies and then I will work. Sometimes my father gets angry with me that I am not working because I want to pay attention to my studies . When whole day I work and work I only get little money to help my parents but when I come to Buddha smile school I learn many things and I have so much fun here. I want to be a policeman when I grow up , I will not be a bad policeman I will not beat people, I will be a kind hearted policeman I will listen to all the people , so there is justice and people have rights, everyone should have rights. In the slums policemen come and break down the huts with a stick and say. ‘You have to go, move from here , due to you the side of the road looks dirty'. I have seen these things . The police try to torture us and say, ‘give us some money to stop', but we are poor people, how are we to have this money to give the police?
